Module 10: Scenario Labs

Learning Objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

• Deploy multiple VergeOS topologies using the Terraform playground (2-node HCI, 4-node HCI, HCI+Compute hybrid, UCI 3-cluster)
• Perform a VMware-to-VergeOS migration end-to-end including planning, execution, and validation
• Design HCI+Compute hybrid architectures that separate storage and compute scaling for workload-specific optimization
• Build multi-tenant MSP environments with tenant creation, resource quotas, network isolation, and audit verification
• Make architecture decisions based on real-world customer requirements and constraints

Prerequisites

• Completion of all prior modules (1–9)
• Access to the vergeos-terraform-playground repository
• A running VergeOS environment with admin access
• Terraform CLI installed and configured

VMware Bridge

These capstone labs bring together everything you’ve learned in the course. If you’re coming from VMware, think of this as your “proof of concept” phase — the same stage where you’d deploy a nested vSphere lab to validate a design. Here you’ll use Terraform to deploy real VergeOS topologies, migrate workloads from VMware, and practice the same design-decision process you’d follow with a customer.

Nutanix Bridge

If you’re coming from Nutanix, think of this as the equivalent of running a proof of concept through Nutanix Test Drive or a Community Edition deployment. Here you’ll use Terraform to deploy real VergeOS topologies, explore migration paths from Nutanix, and practice the same design-decision process you’d follow with a customer — including scenarios like UCI deployments that have no Nutanix equivalent.

Scenario Labs

Lab: HCI Deployment

Deploy 2-node and 4-node HCI topologies using the Terraform playground. Validate cluster health, storage, and networking.

Lab: UCI Deployment

Deploy a UCI 3-cluster topology with separate compute and storage clusters. Practice scaling and resource allocation across clusters.

Lab: VMware Migration

Plan and execute a VMware-to-VergeOS migration end-to-end, including VM import, network reconfiguration, and validation.

Lab: HCI + Compute Deployment

Deploy an HCI foundation cluster with a dedicated compute-only cluster. Configure workload placement and validate independent compute scaling.

Lab: Multi-Tenancy / MSP

Build a multi-tenant MSP environment with tenant creation, resource quotas, network isolation, and audit verification.

Module Outline

1. HCI Deployment Lab — Deploy and validate 2-node and 4-node HCI topologies using the Terraform playground, verify cluster health, storage tiers, and core fabric networking
2. UCI Deployment Lab — Deploy a 3-cluster UCI topology with dedicated compute and storage clusters, practice resource allocation, and compare UCI vs HCI tradeoffs hands-on
3. VMware Migration Lab — Plan a migration from VMware to VergeOS, import VMs, reconfigure networking, validate workload functionality, and document the migration runbook
4. HCI + Compute Deployment Lab — Deploy an HCI foundation cluster paired with a dedicated compute-only cluster, configure workload placement across clusters, and validate independent compute scaling
5. Multi-Tenancy / MSP Lab — Build a multi-tenant MSP environment by creating tenants via wizard and recipe, configuring resource quotas and network isolation, verifying tenant separation, and reviewing audit logs
